If D’Arby didn’t bet the secret of Dio’s stand Jotaro wouldn’t have to accept anything else he offered him, and they would’ve had to come to some kind of compromise. I don’t get why the compromise would be a problem for D’Arby, though, as long as D’Arby bets something that’s worth as much as Holly’s soul.
Jotaro knows that no matter how fast Star Platinum is, he couldn’t cheat against a guy like D’Arby. He instead planned to scare him into folding, which he’s done. But if he’d looked at his own hand and seen the bad cards, he would have freaked out.
