To provide better N fertilizer recommendations, NC State University faculty in 1993 created the Realistic Yield Expectation (RYE) database with assistance from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA&CS), the North Carolina Division of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ, now the Division of Water Resources), and the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources.
